The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy didn’t really effect my part of the Bronx too much. Lights, water supply and all were fine, no floods either. So I went off to Manhattan to see how much the borough was effected, and so far this is what I’ve seen.
And then there was the after party. During day 1 of the Afro Punk Festival, I saw Drummer Dave Machinist of Shinobi Ninja and he passed a flyer for the after party my way. I didn’t know about it before hand so I was a little surprised, but I knew I was definitely going. There were also three other performances by Gospels, Maffew Ragazino and Small Axe. Though I’ve never heard of them, they all put on dope performances as well as Shinobi Ninja. Check em’ out when you get a chance.
I’ve been waiting for this weekend for two months, and it was well worth the wait. Good vibes and quality spins throughout the day. Performances were great. The Memorials, killed it…Alice Smith, killed it…Phony Ppl, killed it…Erykah Badu, killed it…Flatbush Zombies, killed it…Reggie Watts, killed it…TV on the Radio, killed it. BUT, I missed most of the Janelle Monae performance. Ran into people I haven’t seen in a while including some people I didn’t expect to be interested in the event. I went into the second day planning to get more portraits but, punked out. On top of that, I don’t have many pictures of other performances because of one or two things, way too far or too busy flowing to the music. Welp!
